Day 1 May. 21, 2013
The day started a little before 9:00 am after we loaded the truck & headed to Julie’s house to pick up Fallen Hero’s Dream Ride & the rest of the crew. Ariving about 9:30 am we met up with up Julie, Roy & Kim. Switched our gear from our truck to the. FHDR trailer.
Butts in the seat & away we went pulling out at 9:45 am headed to Dale’s Harley Davidson in Mt Vernon, Il. When entering the ramp to I364 from Harvester the right rear wheel of the trailer decided to not make the trip & exited the trailer. A lady (Lynn a friend of Bart’s) pulls along side & blows her horn at us telling us we had lost the wheel. Pulled over on the shoulder to check it out, sure enough we had lost a wheel & all the studs & lug nuts we also MIA.
Lynn volunteers to drive Roy back to show him were the wheel came off & to try & find it. The grass along the ramp is 2 to 3 ft tall & with no exact path it seems next to impossible to find, when Roy gets help from above. Phillip (the truck in the trailer, Fallen Hero’s Dream Ride is a rolling memorial for him. Phillip was killed Oct 13, 2010 defending our country.) told Roy look over there, which Roy did & low & behold there it was. In the mean time I took the trailer to the next exit to get off the highway.
Started looking for someone to repair the damage. Using Google I located Craftsman Trailer Repair on Mueller Rd. Unloaded FHDR & headed to Craftsman getting there about 11:30 am. The service manger surveyed the damage had me pull it into a bay & would get started on it right after lunch.
To speed up the process we took the tire which had a slash in it, so we headed to Walmart where the tires had been purchased. After about 2 & a half hours we had a new tire mounted & balanced. Loaded it in the truck & headed back to Craftsman. It’s now getting close to 4:00 pm, the mechanic was done waiting for us to return, he installs the wheel, we hooked up, Julie paid the bill & off to Corydon we headed.
This day was a bust for sure but with any luck all the problems happened on day 1. While all this was going on at the 12 mile marker in Indiana on I64 Bart’s new Harley just quits running. After being towed to the Harley dealer in Evansville they found a loose wire on the fuel pump. That was fixed & off they headed to Corydon with Dave leading the way. There were some rumors of Bart laying his head on Dave’s shoulder while he was riding ‘bitch’ on the trip to the HD dealer.
We all met up in Corydon around 10:30 EDT
