Digger’s 1st Monster Truck Race
On Sunday Sept 11th, 2016 I took Digger to the Trigger King Monster Truck Race held at Bigfoot 4×4 in Pacific, Mo. Trigger King is a local monster truck club that holds monthly monster truck competition. They goal is to make the racing and trucks as close to 1:1 monster trucks and events as possible with and RC monster truck and still have fun doing it.
There is some time to practice and get to know the layout of the track before the event. Drove Digger through both the red & blue side of the track as I didn’t know what side Digger would end up on. This is really the 1st time for both Digger and myself, did a little practice in the driveway Saturday before the event but that was it. Not much wheel time at all.
Digger was entered in Sport Mod which is sort of the beginners class as the trucks in this class are not as powerful as in the other classes. It is also set up to replicate the Penda series of the ’90’s. The powerplant limit in Sport Mod is a 17T brushed motor. The 1st round Digger was paired against Doug Welker’s UFO. Digger & driver did ok but lost the round to UFO. So Digger was done until the second half, Trigger King runs 2 complete sets of races at an event. The events are win you move on to the next bracket, lose and your done.
After all the brackets were run for all the classes the track was reconfigured and it all started over again. This time Digger was pitted against Ross Hinshaw’s Over Bored. Digger came out of the shoot and made a right when he should have bad a left. Wasn’t Digger’s fault, it was driver error. In hind sight maybe I should have practiced that course a little better as I sure didn’t have it down very well. So we were out in the 1st round again with Over Bored moving on. Chalk it up to a head up your ass rookie mistake.
On Oct 2nd the Winter Series starts and Was-a Digger intends to be there and try his best to rack up a couple of points.
