Franken Cootie
A while back I bought a YiZhan Tarantula X6 which is a 350mm class quadcopter. It didn’t fly well with the stock transmitter so I got a WLToys TX with a V262 and it still flew like crap. The prop guards were about useless both as prop guards and landing skids. The legs that came with it made it tipsy and if flying to close to the ground like doing a touch an go it would tip over on it’s nose. It was never stable at all and it seems that some of the later boards had issues, guess I got on of the bad ones as mine never did fly well.
The bodies were pretty fragile too, couple of crashes and the the pins that the screws go to would break some were even cracked from assembly. One of the guys over at rcgroups.com had taken his and put it on a WLToys v666 frame, calling it a Franken Spider. I went a step further and also will be using the control board for the v666.
Here’s the morphing of the Tarantula into a Franken Cootie

Transplant almost complete. The control board here is just for mock up and will not be the one that is used.

The completed Franken Cootie just waiting for it’s control board then it will be out for a test flight.
Update – Feb 16, 2016
The flight control board arrived today. In stalled it and took the Franken Cootie out for it’s first flight. The weather was pretty yuckie so I just did a test flight in the front yard.
Here he is ready for his 1st flight

The second flight didn’t go quite as well it lasted about 35 seconds before Mr Cootie landed in the top of a tree. He then lost his footing and fell to the ground breaking his 2 front feet.
A little bench work and it’s ready to fly again so all is well…..
