My YD-2 is been having a few issues, one was the front wheels jittering during a turn. It was like the gyro gain was to high but turning it down really didn’t make a difference. It was suggested that I try a different servo. I bought an OMG servo but in the mean time did some tuning and it seemed to go away or at least get much better.
Well last night at Prolevel RC we decided to try the area where the permanent drift track will be located. I changed tires from the ones I was using on carpet and when I turned my YD-2 back on it wouldn’t steer. The led in the gyro was blinking real fast. Turn it off and on several times with the same results. Plugged the servo into the rx and steering worked so the Yokomo gyro had taken a dump. Not real impressed with the Yokomo gyros this is the 2nd one that I have gotten that was bad. Put the SkyRC gyro in and all was good again. Well not really the wheel jitter was back and tuning the gain wasn’t helping. So I took the MST 2.0 gyro out of the MST and put it in the YD-2. It didn’t want to work right either. Turned the gain all the way up and it still wasn’t steering correctly. Put the OMG servo in and adjusted the gyro with Jake’s help. Still not driving/drifting right. It was like it wasn’t even the same car that it was on carpet. I think carpet was masking some of these issues. James tried drifting it and said that it was nothing like it was when he had driven it before. Looked and say that I had a servo saver installed, came in the YD-2 kit. Replaced it with a straight servo arm and finally got the gyro adjusted.
Now the tire search begins. Jake is running Yokomo DRA carpet p-tile tires and his D4 is drifting well. James isn’t sure what tire he has on the rear but his Yokomo DIB is also drifting well. The both made some changes to the end point on their tx and that was all. I put on some tires, not sure what they were but I think they might have been D-Drifts by HPI. No front bite at all it pushed like a dump truck. Different tires on the back and front and nothing was working. Had tried the Mukunis on the tile in the basement and they weren’t bad so I thought what the heck. Maybe not the best choice but they were much better than anything else I tried. Ordered some D-Racing Rwd ff 0, and rwd ff 0 mark 2’s to see how they will do. Might order a set of Yokomo carpet tires also.
Also got a concrete setup off the YD-2 FB group.
