I have several cameras that will shoot 4K video but I don’t have a computer that will edit 4K video. When I started looking for one that would I was really surprised at the cost. I discovered that the cost of a Windows(Linux) laptop was going to cost about the same a a Macbook Pro 13″. I have been wanting to try MacOS for a while now. Really ever since I switched to and iPhone then to an iPad. Did some research and found a Macbook Pro 13″ with 16 GB ram and a 512 GB SSD drive at Microcenter. Went last Friday and picked one up.
After setting it up I discovered that the learning curve was going to be a tad bit steeper than I had thought. The biggest issue for me was the trackpad. Yes Apple has one of the best trackpads on the market but it doesn’t really work like any other, I had to relearn a few things. Each day it got easier. The other issue I was having was reading the screen. Guess I should have looked a little closer when I bought it but I was trying to save $500 plus dollars which was the cost to get a Macbook Pro 16″. You can adjust the resolution of the display but then it made the MBP look like a late 90’s laptop, who wants that in this day and age.
The next issue today was when I started editing 4K video, it was 100 times better than any of my other laptops but still not perfect. I will play it fine, my others won’t even do that, but when editing I had some lag. If it wasn’t for the small text I would probably just live with it as it’s way better than what I had. Under the circumstances I decided to return it and get the Macbook Pro 16″ with the i7 9th Gen processor, 16 GB ram, & 512 GB SSD drive. What’s going to help here with the editing is the seperate video card with 8 GB ram of it’s own. So tomorrow it off to Microcenter to make the exchange.
