After the issues with Shotcut i went looking for another video editor. There are several out there but when checking iMovie keeps coming to the top of the list for MacOS. I watched a couple of videos on how to use iMovie and started editing some footage with it.
I was use to dumping the clip to the time line then cutting out what i didn’t want. iMovie uses the concept of marking the In & Out points then adding that section to the timeline. The good thing is this can all be done with keyboard commands, which I like when editing a clip. For free software iMovie had some nice features, such as a bunch of title templates. As far a I know you can add any more some some the editing of the template is very limited. One thing I do wish you could do with the titles is change the outline color but a far as I can tell it defaults to black and can’t be changed. There are a good number of transitions which you just drag and drop between the clips. You can adjust the speed of clips, either faster or slower. You can also do color correction which I don’t do unless it for some kind of effect. You can also crop/resize a clip.
I’ve edited a few short clips with it and am getting the hang of iMovie. For what I do I can’t justify the $300 price tag of Final Cut Pro, so I think for the time being iMovie will become my new video editor.
